The Richards Glaucoma Shunt Implant Lid speculum is designed for obstruction-free implantation of glaucoma shunt devices. In particular of the Ahmed Glaucoma Valve, in the superotemporal or inferotemporal quadrants. Spacing between the two temporal hooks is 0.5 mm greater than maximum width of the Ahmed plate, allowing rapid and smooth insertion of the plate. In addition, the speculum has no metallic structure on the underside of the lid in the path of plate insertion, eliminating a source of obstruction common to many other types of speculum.
